Computers for Kids
Catering to K-12 students and family, We provide recycled computers to at-risk youth and families in need. To qualify for a free computer, you must be a K-12 student in a public school and be on the free or reduced lunch program. In order to apply for the program, parents must complete our request form. This form must explain their specific need and how the computer could benefit the child.
To bridge the ‘Digital Divide’ by providing each low-income family with a student a free refurbished computer and online computer training with ongoing support to those in the home.
One of the main benefits of computers for children is the availability of knowledge, and its instant access. Children can research any subject for academic or personal use from an endless variety of sources. This encourages children to think critically, as they learn how to find information and navigate search engines.
Through computers, children have the potential to change their outlook on their abilities, confidence, and self-esteem. A shy or withdrawn child can talk to others from the privacy of a keyboard. Children with emotional problems or those who are not often around other children do not have to feel totally isolated if they have access to the outside world via the Internet.
Computer use exponentially increases options for creative growth and artistic expression. Computers allow children of many age groups to develop artistic skills in photography, film-making, drawing and design, in addition to music.
Parent Child Interaction
We recommend that parents work with young children when using the computer to learn how their child thinks and learns. We live in a computer age. By exposing kids to computers at young ages, they are exposed to a skill that adults have to catch up to. Children will be able to keep up in the Information Age and will do so successfully.
About our process.
Please fill out the form below. Slots are extremely limited, and we base the computers we give on people that can benefit the most from them. Once the form has been submitted we will reach out within a few weeks to let you know if you qualify or if you’re on a waiting list. We try our best to give everyone a free computer but hardware is extremely limited.
Delivery & Setup:
Once your application has been processed, we work with you to schedule a time to deliver and setup the computer onsite. Once there we go over the computer and the free online courses. Make sure the student is comfortable with the device and knows how to get started.
We reach out to make sure the computer is being utilized and the student is advancing their cognitive and technological skills. The goal is for the student’s grades to increase along with their technological understanding.
